COURTESY VISIT BY THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION (NBA) IMO STATE CHARACTER TO THE ACTING CHIEF JUDGE

The Acting Chief Judge of Imo State today received a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Imo State Chapter, led by its Chairman and members of the Executive Committee, on a courtesy visit to the Judiciary Headquarters.


In his remarks, the Chairman formally congratulated Her Lordship on her appointment as Acting Chief Judge of Imo State and pledged the unwavering support and cooperation of the Bar in advancing the administration of justice within the State.


During the interactive session, the Chairman outlined several concerns currently affecting legal practice in the State. These included complaints relating to the cost implications of bailiff services, delays in the execution of court orders, delays in the assessment of cases, issues of indecent dressing among some legal practitioners, the impact of the Monday sit-at-home situation on court proceedings, and the availability of courtroom facilities.


In her response, the Acting Chief Judge addressed the concerns raised especially that of the Monday-sit-home she dismissed that because the court doesn’t observe it, however the judges use Mondays to write judgement and for researches as there are no rules that require judges to sit everyday of the week, with this she assured the delegation that the Judiciary remains committed to continuous improvement in service delivery. Matters requiring further clarification and investigation were referred to the Chief Registrar for detailed inquiry and report.


Her Lordship emphasized the symbiotic relationship between the Bench and the Bar, noting that a weak Bar inevitably affects the strength and effectiveness of the Bench. She reiterated that both institutions are interdependent and must work collaboratively to uphold the rule of law and ensure efficient justice delivery.


The Acting Chief Judge further urged legal practitioners to demonstrate diligence and thorough preparation in the handling of their cases, observing that proper study of case files and preparedness in court would significantly contribute to the timely conclusion of matters and enhance effective adjudication.


At the conclusion of the meeting, it was resolved that a structured forum be instituted to foster sustained engagement and constructive dialogue between the Bench and the Bar in Imo State.
